As part of our commitment to child safety, CHI St. Joseph Health has been a certified Safe Sitter® teaching site for over 25 years. Safe Sitter® prepares students to be safe when they're home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting.
Students learn life-saving skills such as how to rescue someone who's choking, and helpful information like what to do if there is severe weather. The lessons are filled with fun activities and role-playing exercises. Students even get to use CPR manikins to practice CPR and choking rescue!
The Safe Sitter® Essentials with CPR course is available to students in grades 6-8 (who have completed the 5th grade and have not yet started the 9th grade at the time of class). Each class will be held from 9:00am - 3:30pm. There is also a short graduation ceremony at 3:30pm that family members and siblings are encouraged to attend. Registration cost is $50, which includes the cost of the official Safe Sitter® student handbook and completion card. Student scholarships are available to students whose families cannot afford the normal fee. Please inquire for details.
