Dr. Ume Kakwan is a board-certified internal medicine physician specializing in care for adults 55 and older. Dr. Kakwan has served the Brazos Valley for more than 30 years and currently practices at the new CHI St. Joseph Health MatureWell Lifestyle Center.
Dr. Kakwan is passionate about caring for seniors in a manner that includes the whole person. She is compassionate, understanding and respectful of her patients. Her primary focus in caring for her patients is to provide specialized care that improves their health and quality of life.
“In the tradition setting, a patient comes in to be treated for one illness. They are treated and then sent home. But when they come to the MatureWell Lifestyle Center, we look at the full picture, from their diet, nutrition, health setting and who is providing care to them,” says Dr. Kakwan. “So we consider the whole picture in their care, not just the one illness that brought them in. There are several factors that impact the quality of their life and them medical problems. We create a plan based on the patient’s priorities and how to manage their medical problems to keep them healthy and safe.”
Dr. Kakwan received her medical degree from Fatima Jinnah Medical College for Women and also completed a Fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine. She is board certified in family medicine.
