Procedure: Total Hip Replacement
Surgeon: Dr. Barry Veazey
A: People wonder why a woman like me, considered quite young by hip-replacement standards, would decide on this life-changing surgery. I did it because I was in so much pain I couldn’t walk. It was awful.
Both of my boys were home for Christmas last year, but I couldn’t even enjoy the time with them because I was in excruciating pain. I missed a Navy graduation, an Army graduation, and a high school graduation because of terrible hip pain.
I couldn’t walk without pain. I couldn’t even sleep, because sitting, standing, laying – it didn’t matter – it always hurt. My life was severely limited by hip pain, so the decision – once we met Dr. Veazey – was easy.
A: Once I met Dr. Veazey I was assured that he was the right surgeon for me. He is wonderful, caring human being. I can't say enough good about him!
As busy as he is, Dr. Veazey took the time to show me my x-ray and explain everything to me. No pressure. He was very patient as he explained of what he saw and what he was recommending.
Dr. Veazey and his entire staff make you feel so wonderful, like you’re the only patient they have to worry about. And the way they prepared me for surgery was excellent. In fact – beyond excellent! From pre-registration, so we were all set when we arrived at the hospital, to telling me what to expect, right down to time-frames, pain management, and going home.
CHI St. Joseph’s Joint University for pre-op education was great. They explained the entire process I would go through. I was given pre-op and post-op exercises to do, information on medicines, home health resources, everything I needed to know. The Joint University team, including some amazing volunteers who’ve been through joint replacement surgery, are exceptional. The whole thing was so well thought-out.
Even the food was wonderful! I didn’t even have to call for a nurse, they checked on me so often. They were all so sweet. They set me up beautifully to go home with everything I needed. They even set me an appointment with a great physical therapist that was close to home
I couldn’t have asked for a better experience!
A: Since my hip replacement my life has improved dramatically. I felt immediate pain relief. I quit using the walker at 4 weeks. I am amazed! Now I exercise regularly, walk the treadmill, travel with my husband, and it’s wonderful! To be able to walk now, without pain, wow! I couldn’t be happier with the results!
A: I most definitely recommend Dr. Veazey and CHI St. Joseph Health! There’s not a doubt in mind about it. I recommend them without hesitation!
