Procedure: Total Knee Replacement
Surgeon: Dr. Barry Veazey
A: No one wants to go through surgery, but I wanted to be able to do what I wanted and needed to do. I was limping, and it hurt. It felt like my knee would buckle at any time. I was holding onto furniture and walls just to get around the house. Because of pain and swelling in my knee I wasn’t doing anything I didn’t have to do.
Well, I decided that’s no way to live! I have grandchildren and I want to enjoy them. I also wanted a healthier lifestyle.
A: Joint University just might have been the best part! They covered everything about the surgery, recovery, and rehab, including the resources I needed after I went home. Pre-op exercises were explained and they gave me time to do them before surgery. The notebook they gave me was wonderful. With Joint University I knew exactly what was going to happen, and when – from start to finish. There’s no guesswork.
The CHI St. Joseph Health physical therapy staff, doctors, and nurses are all very nice! They’re pretty amazing. I give them an A++! Physical therapy and occupational therapy at St. Joseph was great! They really know what they’re doing!
The follow-up from the hospital and Dr. Veazey’s office has been very good. All of my questions have been answered immediately and they’ve encouraged me along the way.
A: I couldn’t have asked for a better experience and outcome! Since my knee replacement I’ve had much more freedom. I am very happy with it! I can actually get down on the floor and back up again! I was bowling after four months. And dancing – yes, I am doing the Cupid Shuffle and playing dance games with my grandkids again!
A: I have already recommended CHI St. Joseph Health and Dr. Veazey to a friend. Now, three of my siblings need knee replacements. They’ve seen my progress after surgery and have been amazed and encouraged. Thanks to Dr. Veazey, I’m almost back to where I was.
