The CHI St. Joseph Health Cancer Center Program is committed to a multidisciplinary team approach. Made up of several teams, including medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgeons, nurses, therapists, case workers, and educators, our team approaches cancer with a passion. And we use that passion to help you get better and maintain as much normalcy as possible during your cancer treatment.

Radiation therapy provided by Board Certified Radiation Oncologists

The Radiation Oncology department is comprised of a variety of healthcare professionals who have extensive knowledge and expertise in treating patients through radiation. 

Scott Goble, MD, Radiation Oncologist – An American Board of Radiology Certified Radiation Oncologist, Dr. Goble has been with the CHI St. Joseph Health Cancer Center since 1996. A graduate of the University of Louisville, School of Medicine, he served his residency in Radiation Oncology at the University of Kansas Medical Center.

Dr. Goble is a member of the American Medical Association, American Society for Radiation Oncology, Texas Medical Association, Brazos-Robertson Co. Medical Society, American College of Radiation Oncology, American College of Radiology, and the Texas Radiological Society.

In addition to private practice, Dr. Goble is currently Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiology at the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine. Dr. Goble devotes himself to ongoing research and study that keeps him on the leading edge of cancer treatment through radiation.

Medical Oncology Therapy provided by three Board Certified Medical Oncologists.

The Medical Oncology department includes of a variety of healthcare professionals who have extensive knowledge and expertise in treating patients through chemotherapy or other medications, such as targeted therapy and oral chemotherapy.

Kumud Tripathy, MD, Medical Oncologist – Director of Medical Oncology at CHI St. Joseph Health Cancer Center, Dr. Tripathy is a Board Certified Medical Oncologist. He finished medical school in his home country of India and has six years of postgraduate training in the United States, evenly divided between internal medicine and oncology. Dr. Tripathy completed his medical oncology fellowship at Roswell Park Memorial Institute in Buffalo, New York in 1980. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology, and has been in practice since 1980. He moved to Bryan in 1982 with his wife and three children to begin his practice here.

He has never stopped pioneering, learning, and moving forward with new and innovative medical cancer treatments that give his patients better outcomes with reduced side effects.

Terry Jenkins, MD, FACP, Medical Oncologist / Hematologist – An American Board of Internal Medicine Certified Medical Oncologist, Internist, and Hematologist, Dr. Jenkins has been on the CHI St. Joseph Health Cancer Center team since 1997. He is co-director of medical oncology at CHI St. Joseph Health Regional Cancer Center and past chairman of the Department of Medicine and cancer committee.

Dr. Jenkins earned his Bachelors of Science in Biochemistry at the University of California and is a graduate of the Georgetown University School of Medicine. He served his internal medicine residency at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., and a fellowship in medical oncology and hematology at Brooke Army Medical Center, San Antonio, Texas.

A Diplomat of the National Board of Medical Examiners since 1976, Dr. Jenkins is also a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. He concluded his twenty two-year military career as Colonel and Chief, Medical Oncology Service at the Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, where he also served as director for the medical oncology/hematology fellowship program.

In addition to private practice, Dr. Jenkins is currently Clinical Assistant Professor at the Texas A&M University School of Medicine. Believing that the ever-changing fields of medical oncology and hematology require an insatiable search for knowledge, Dr. Jenkins is a pioneer and published thought-leader in his fields of practice.

Erin Fleener, MD, Medical Oncologist – A Board Certified Medical Oncologist, Dr. Fleener has been a member of the CHI St. Joseph Health Cancer Center staff since 2009 and currently holds the position of Vice President of the Medical Staff. She is a graduate (M.D.) of the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, and earned her Bachelors of Science in Biomedical Science at Texas A&M University. Dr. Fleener served her residency in Internal Medicine at Vanderbilt University.

Dr. Fleener is clinical director of the 4th year medical student oncology elective at CHI St. Joseph Health. She was the Vice Chair for the Department of Internal Medicine at CHI St. Joseph Health for 2010 and 2011 and the Chair of the Department for all of 2012 and 2013. In 2012, 2013 and most recently 2014, she was awarded the Texas Super Doctors Rising Star award by Texas Monthly. In 2013 she was presented with the Woman of Distinction Award for Girl Scouts of Central Texas.

Dr. Fleener participates in many community activities including Surviving & Thriving and the Brazos Valley Breast Cancer Support Group. She sits on the Board of Hospice Brazos Valley and is an Associate Clinical Professor for Texas A&M Health Science Center. In addition, Dr. Fleener is on the Board for CHI St. Joseph HealthPartners and a Member of the Medical Executive Committee, as well as the Peer Performance Review Committee at St. Joseph.

Dr. Fleener is committed to staying involved in cancer treatment research, education, and community organizations and events, in order to continually improve outcomes for her patients.

The CHI St. Joseph Health Cancer program provides patient-centered care with a focus on the whole patient. In addition to cancer doctors who specialize in expert cancer care, our nurses and therapists –our entire team –make the loving and compassionate care of our patients our top priority.  

Teri Sabo, RN – As Oncology Patient Care Navigator at CHI St. Joseph Health, Teri is an excellent communicator with a heart for her patients and their families. She assists patients and their families by guiding them through the healthcare system, making sure they have a complete understanding of their diagnoses and treatment, and directing them to available educational resources and support services.

As Patient Care Navigator, Teri improves the treatment experience for patients by coordinating appointments and services, building strong relationships with other healthcare team members, keeping the communication line open with patients, and focusing on providing truly patient-centered care.

Teri has been in nursing for over 30 years with 15 of those years in the oncology discipline. With CHI St. Joseph Health since 2012, Teri has been the pioneer of our Oncology Navigator program. She is a Certified Breast Health Navigator, and has experience as a nurse educator, computer informatics, performance improvement, management, and Faith Community Nursing.

Elizabeth Freeman, BSRS, RT(R)(M), CMS– She serves as Breast Health Navigator, as well as our lead mammographer. She helps patients from screening, through biopsy. If a biopsy is negative, she follows up with patients to ensure they keep up with exams in a timely manner. If a result is positive, Elizabeth will help seamlessly transition care to Teri Sabo, our lead Oncology Patient Care Navigator.

Elizabeth is a certified Mamma Care specialist - one of only six in the state of Texas who has this special certification, and the only one in the Brazos Valley. She also assists in training providers to conduct effective clinical breast exams, and teaches patients how to conduct correct self-breast exams.

B.J. Harp, LSW, GC-C – As CHI St. Joseph Health Cancer Center’s Clinical Social Worker, B.J. is a licensed health professional held to high ethical standards. B.J. provides diversified support for our cancer patients and their families during diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship. She is also trained in end-of-life care, and bereavement. A licensed social worker with the Texas State Board of Social workers, B.J. is also certified as a grief counselor with the American Academy of Grief Counseling. 

B.J. considers the whole person and environment, and uses a bio-psychosocial assessment to identify each individual's needs. These needs may include, but are not limited to, physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, financial, sexual, recreational, relationship, safety, legal, family and care giving needs. B.J. believes that addressing a patient's psychosocial health needs is vital to providing excellent cancer treatment and care. As a trained cancer social worker she is an integral part of the healthcare team and contributes to the development and coordination of each patient’s overall cancer treatment plan.
