The pain management team at CHI St. Joseph Health is the only team in the Brazos Valley dedicated to the treatment of chronic back and spine pain. Led by experienced physician Dr. James V. Stonecipher, the team has more than 25 years of combined experience in interventional pain management. Following a referral from your primary care provider or specialist, you will be evaluated and given a personalized treatment plan to help you manage and improve your pain. 

Pain management specialists treat the whole body, primarily through routine injection for interventional pain management.

Our Team

Dr. James V. Stonecipher

Board certified physician, James V. Stonecipher, M.D., specializes in anesthesiology and Interventional pain medicine.  Dr. Stonecipher received his medical degree at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston and graduated with election into Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. After medical school graduation, he completed his anesthesiology residency and pain medicine training at Scott and White Memorial Hospital in Temple, Texas. Upon completion of his training, he served as a founding member and medical director of the Scott and White Ambulatory Surgery Center in College Station, Texas. 

In 1997, Dr. Stonecipher founded Texas Pain and Spine Consultants, the first full service interventional pain clinic in the Bryan-College Station area, where he continues as the medical and clinical director.  He is also a founding member and partner with Pain and Spine Consultants of Texas, the interventional pain medicine providers for CHI St. Joseph Health Pain and Spine Associates. Recently, Dr. Stonecipher completed a Master of Science in Health Care Management from the University of Texas, Dallas campus.  He was voted the Best of the Brazos Pain Management Physician an unprecedented seven consecutive years, was selected for Best Doctors in America Award 2011-2012 by Best Doctors® and was honored as a Super Doctor by Texas Monthly, December 2017.

Dr. Ali Daftarian

Dr. Daftarian is a cum laude graduate of Texas A&M Class of 2004. He graduated medical school in 2008 from the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio. He completed his internship in Internal Medicine at Scott and White Memorial Hospital in Temple, Tx and subsequently completed his Anesthesiology residency at Boston University in Boston, Ma where he was chosen 'Resident of the Year' 2012. Dr. Daftarian completed his pain management fellowship at the prestigious Texas Tech University, one of the highest rated pain programs in the country.

Dr. Daftarian is board certified in Anesthesiology and in Pain Medicine. Dr. Daftarian is an active member of the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, Texas Pain Society, Texas Medical Association, and the American Medical Association. He was also featured in the American Society of Anesthesiologists' video on “Awareness under Anesthesia" in 2010.  Active in research and publications, Dr. Daftarian has presented at both local and national meetings including the American Society of Anesthesiologists and Texas Pain Society. He also has been voted the Reader’s Choice for ‘Best Pain Management Physician’ in 2016 and 2017 from the Eagle.

Dr. Daftarian is educated and experienced in all aspects of pain management, but has specialized expertise in advanced interventional pain medicine including: Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS), Peripheral Nerve Stimulation (PNS), Ultrasound-guided procedures, The Racz Procedure (lysis of adhesions), and fracture repair through kyphoplasty/vertebral augmentation.

The Daftarian family has been trusted in providing excellent healthcare and community service to the Brazos Valley for over 15 years through Daftarian Family Practice and Daftarian Dentisty. Treating every patient as though they are family is part of their values. Dr. Daftarian utilizes a multi-modal approach to pain management and believes that well-educated patients have the best chance for pain-free lifestyles. He consistently works to bring patients the education they need through therapies and programs implemented at CHI St. Joseph Health, Pain Associates.

James “Tim” Gray, RN, MSN, FNP

Tim is a Nurse Practitioner at Pain and Spine Associates in Bryan, Texas. Tim was born and raised in the Brazos Valley and is a US Army Infantry Veteran.  Tim graduated with high honors from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing in 1998. Following graduation from Nursing School Tim worked as an Emergency Department Nurse at Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas and later at St. Joseph Hospital Emergency Department in Bryan, Texas.  In 2003 Tim earned his Master of Science degree in Nursing from The University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, Texas. Tim is certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner through the American Nurses Credentialing Center.  He has worked with Dr. Stonecipher at Texas Pain and Spine Consultants since 2004 and also has advanced practice experience in Internal Medicine and Urgent Care.  

Holly Wolfe, RN, NP
Holly Wolfe was born and raised in the Brazos Valley.  She graduated from the University of Mary Hardin Baylor in 1999 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing.  Following graduation from nursing school she moved to the Dallas Metroplex area where she worked in Critical Care nursing for several years.  While working in nursing she completed her Masters of Science in Nursing obtaining her Family Nurse Practitioner through the AANP.  She has worked in Orthopedics, Urgent Care, Physical Medicine, and Rehab before relocating back to Bryan College Station area and joining CHI St. Joseph Health Pain and Spine Associates in August of 2016.  Holly enjoys outdoor activities, running, and spending time with her family.
